1/12/2010:
Dear Players and Parents: Welcome to the 2010 IFPAA Mustang (10 year old) Baseball League! My name is Dave Johnson and I will be serving as the Commissioner for the 2010 season .The 2010 season will be an exciting and challenging year for our kids. This year the kids will finally make the transition to full-scale style baseball. The most notable changes from last year will be full and unrestricted base stealing and no pitcher’s circle or halfway lines. We are projecting 6 teams with 11 or 12 on a team, depending on the number of registrants. We plan to schedule a minimum of 16 regular in-house games and end with a round of playoffs to determine a league champion. We will play most games at the Vestal 3 Field. I plan to conduct indoor instructional sessions in February, tentatively scheduled for February 5 and February 12. Draft tryouts for the 2010 season will be held in March. Dates and times of the instructional sessions and tryouts will be posted as soon as the gym schedules are finalized. Practice will start in April and the season will run from late April through late June. After the regular season ends, tournament teams will be selected and will compete in the IFPAA tournament as well as other local tournaments. Tournament baseball is more intense than the regular season and lasts for five or six weeks with time and money commitments. Depending on a team’s success, a team could play anywhere from 15 to 30 games in the month of July. As is always the case with youth sports, we need volunteers to make it all work. If you are interested in managing an in-house or tournament team, please contact me if you have not already done so. We also need field help, snack shack, assistant coaches, Tournament committees, etc. Online registration is available now through March 1 via the IFPAA website (www.ifpaa.org). In addition to registering yourselves, encourage any friends or neighbors with children that did not play in our league last year to register if interested. Lastly, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact me at djohnson@ifpaa.org. I look forward to meeting you all this season and look forward to another successful year in 2010.
